. good morning everyone. president obama has another light day on his schedule today. just an afternoon meeting with defense secretary leon panetta. that's after a new fiscal cliff offer is now on the table showing he and speaker boehner could be closer to reaching a deal. the two met at the white house for about 45 minutes yesterday. last night president obama laid out a new compromise. a couple of details for you. the about the has dropped his revenue demands to $1.2 trillion over the next decade. that's down from his initial $1.6 trillion that he wanted. he's also offering another $1.2 trillion in spending cuts and $130 billion in savings but adjusting. >>> inflation to social security. now one more very notable aspect president obama is now saying he's willing to extend those bush era tax cuts for all incomes less than $400,000 a year. that's, of course, up from the $250,000 we've been talking so much about. speaker boehner's office is calling that a step in the right direction but he still thinks that it is an unbalanced proposal. one other group not happy with the deal i

here about what president obama's going to do when it comes to his cabinet. we thought last friday we would hear who the new secretary of state was going to be and who the new secretary of defense was going to be. didn't happen. president obama, jay carney told us at the white house, the day before yesterday is continuing to work on those issues, have meetings on the issues. no announcement to make. but coral davenport from "national journal" said if we get john kerry in either one of the positions we might see something happening on global warming. >> nice to be here. >> bill: she covers the environmental issues for the "national journal." you and everybody else thinks it is a slam dunk that john kerry will get one or the other. >> not necessarily a slam dunk. you know, a couple of weeks ago i would have lined up with everyone else and said it was very clear that susan rice was the top contender. >> bill: for state. >> for state. now it appears increasingly difficult as much as the president would like to put her in that position, it would be difficult to get confirmed by the senate.

obama is taking his fiscal cliff campaign back on the road again today. he is headed today redford, michigan where he will tour a diesel plant and speak to middle class workers. he will push his plan to raise encloses above 250 -- to raise taxes above $250,000 a year. president obama met with house speaker boehner for the first time in more than three weeks. the house is still refuseing to pass obama's tax plan much less agree to other policies. josh earnest is not giving any details into yesterday's. some republicans are coming around on improving higher tax rates for the wealthy. bob corker said on fox news sunday, obama does have the upper hand on taxes. oklahoma representative tom cole said on cnn's state of a union if brought to a vote they would pass the house. that goes against speaker boehner's tone who seems to believe obama's plan would not be able to pass both chambers of congress. as far as what americans think of the president right now that is pretty evenly split. the new politico battleground poll just out today has his approval rating at 50%. more than billcat bill

can be bought. president obama travels to redford, michigan, today to speak at daimler detroit diesel. the company is expected to announce a $100 million plus investment that would expand u.s. production and jobs and also help them develop new technology. detroit deals has 2300 employees and it makes engines rear axles and transmissions. daimler is expected to say its truck division will be the first heavy duty vehicle maker in the u.s. to make all of the parts in one place. that means that the design process can end up being more efficient and the parts end up being more effective. president obama's trip to michigan comes at the same time that right to work legislation is teed up to be signed into law this week. the republican state house and senate jammed through the legislation last week and governor rick schneider who is also a republican, is likely to sign it tomorrow. labor union leaders say they've been told the president will address the right to work fight in today's speech in michigan. in a statement released last thursday a white house spokesman said that president obama ha

keeps piling up. this is absolute insanity. so if i were president obama and i'm still in office, and by the way, remember president obama smokeed pot himself and apparently other things as well, and yet he puts all of those people in jail for smoking pot. he continues to do the same insanity that all of these other presidents have continued throughout their administrations. this is what i would do. first of all, i would leave the states alone. this is what i tell conservatives. you win. colorado washington, have all the states rights in the world to legalize marijuana. second of all i would begin the legalization process on the federal level and then to make conservative heads explode i would do a blanket pardon for all people in prison for marijuana possession. you're free to go. because they never should have been arrested in the first place. it's criminal how many people we have locked up in prison over marijuana possession. if i were president, we would have a different country. it might an little fun. but a guy who might disagree with me is jack burke man on radio america.
